Respected guests, teachers, and dear students, good morning. As we celebrate Children's Day today, I would like to use these few minutes to talk about something a little more serious than balloons and sweets, though those are wonderful too - the importance of child rights and education in shaping a just society. Every child, no matter where they are born, into wealth or poverty, in a city or a remote village, has the right to food, shelter, safety, and above all, education. Education is not a privilege reserved for the fortunate few; it is a fundamental right that opens every other door in life. A child who learns to read can one day read the laws that protect them. A child who learns to count can one day manage a business or budget a household. A child who learns to question can one day challenge injustice. Sadly, even today, many children around the world are denied this basic right, forced into labour, denied healthcare, or left without access to a classroom. On a day dedicated to celebrating childhood, it is also our duty to remember these children and to commit ourselves, in whatever small way we can, to protecting their rights. As students sitting in this assembly, we can start by being kind to those less fortunate, by valuing the education we are so lucky to receive instead of complaining about it, and by raising our voices whenever we see another child being mistreated. As Pandit Nehru believed, a nation that protects its children protects its own future. Let us use this Children's Day not only to celebrate but also to recommit ourselves to a world where every child can learn, play, and grow up safely. Thank you, and happy Children's Day.
