Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in Deuteronomy 34?
Moses views the promised land from Mount Nebo, dies there in Moab at 120 years old, and is buried in an unknown location; Israel mourns him for thirty days.
Why couldn't Moses enter the promised land according to Deuteronomy 34?
The chapter doesn't give the reason directly, only that the LORD showed him the whole land and told him 'thou shalt not go over thither' (verse 4), consistent with what Moses had already told Israel about himself in Deuteronomy 31:2.
What does Deuteronomy 34:10 mean that no prophet arose like Moses?
It states that no prophet since had known the LORD 'face to face' or performed the signs and wonders Moses did in Egypt, marking him as uniquely close to God among Israel's leaders.

Today's Verse

And the cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubim unto the fire that was between the cherubim, and took `thereof', and put it into the hands of him that was clothed in linen, who took it and went out.

Verse Of The Day

The chapter closes the book of Deuteronomy by declaring that no prophet since has known the LORD face to face as Moses did. His age here matches the number he himself gave in Deuteronomy 31:2, where he first announced he could no longer lead Israel.
