My name is Devika Joshi, and I am currently in my final year of school, preparing to pursue a degree in environmental engineering. I want to begin by sharing not just what I have achieved, but why these achievements matter to me personally. I grew up in a coastal town where I watched, year after year, as rising water levels and unpredictable monsoons disrupted fishing families in my own neighborhood, including some of my closest friends. That early exposure to real consequences, not just headlines, shaped my decision to pursue a field where I could eventually work on practical solutions rather than simply studying problems from a distance. Academically, I have maintained a strong record throughout school, but more than grades, I am proud of the independent project I led last year, building a low-cost water filtration model that we tested in two villages near my hometown, with genuinely promising results. That project taught me more about persistence than any exam ever has, because half of our early prototypes failed completely before one finally worked. Financially, this scholarship would mean the difference between attending the program best suited to my goals and settling for a more limited option closer to home, and I do not say that to evoke sympathy, but because I believe context matters when you are evaluating someone's potential. I am not asking for support because I have not worked hard, I am asking because I have worked hard within real constraints, and this opportunity would let that effort go further. Beyond academics, I volunteer regularly at a local shelter and mentor younger students in science, because I believe knowledge is only valuable when it is shared forward.
