India is often described as a land of unity in diversity, and nowhere is this more visible than in the way we communicate across our vast nation. With more than twenty-two official languages and hundreds of dialects spoken from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the question of how to connect citizens from different regions has always been an important one. Hindi has served as that connecting bridge for generations. When a trader from Gujarat speaks with a worker from Bihar, when a student from Tamil Nadu makes friends with a classmate from Punjab in a college hostel, it is very often Hindi that becomes their shared language of friendship and trust. This role of Hindi as a link language does not diminish any other tongue; rather, it works alongside Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Punjabi, and every other beautiful language of our land, allowing India's incredible diversity to function as one nation. Our freedom movement itself found strength in Hindi, as leaders used it to carry messages of unity to the masses across provinces during the struggle for independence. Mahatma Gandhi himself encouraged the spread of Hindustani as a means of uniting Indians of every background in a common cause. Today, as we celebrate this language, let us also celebrate the spirit of togetherness it represents. Choosing to learn a few words of someone else's mother tongue while still embracing Hindi as our shared language is the true essence of national integration. On this Hindi Diwas, let us recommit ourselves to building bridges of understanding, using Hindi not as a tool of division but as an instrument of unity for our incredible, diverse nation.
