Frequently Asked Questions

What is Psalm 51 about?

What does verse 10 ask for?
It asks 'Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me,' a renewal similar to the promise of a new heart in Ezekiel 11:19. See Psalms 51:10.
What does the psalm say God actually wants instead of sacrifice?
Verse 17 says 'The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise,' valuing genuine repentance over ritual offering.
