17 Therfor girde thou thi leendis, and rise thou, and speke to hem alle thingis whiche Y comaunde to thee; drede thou not of the face of hem, for Y schal not make thee for to drede the cheer of hem.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Jeremiah 1 about?
It records Jeremiah's call as a prophet - God tells him 'Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee...I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations' (v.5) - and Jeremiah's objection that he is only a child, followed by two visions: an almond rod and a boiling pot facing north (vv.11-14).
What does Jeremiah 1:5 say about God knowing Jeremiah before birth?
Jeremiah 1:5 has God saying he knew and sanctified Jeremiah 'before thou camest forth out of the womb,' appointing him a prophet - a claim of pre-birth knowledge echoed in Psalms 139:16.
What do the almond rod and seething pot visions mean in Jeremiah 1?
The almond rod (v.11) confirms God will 'hasten my word to perform it,' while the seething pot facing away from the north (vv.13-14) signals that 'an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land' from that direction.
