A young woman from the United Kingdom who suffered severe burns over more than half of her body has emerged as an unexpected beauty influencer on TikTok, motivating her wide and growing audience.

Aleema Ali, now 18 years old, has amassed more than 780,000 followers on the social networking platform in the six years after she set herself on fire while strolling through the kitchen of her family’s home while using a combustible head-lice treatment product.

After the fire, Ali, who was just 12 years old at the time, remained in a coma for a period of time equal to five weeks. Due to the severity of the child’s burns, the medical staff anticipated that she would not survive; yet, she defied all odds and made a full recovery.

During her conversation with Caters, Ali revealed that in 2016, after spending the previous year at boarding school, she found out that she had head lice after returning home.

She used the Full Marks Solution shampoo on her hair and then forgot to rinse it off, not understanding that the lotion remained on her head was very flammable. Ali’s hair came into close contact with a cooker while she was strolling through the kitchen, where her mother was preparing supper, which caused the preteen’s appearance to resemble that of a “human fireball.”

Following her stay in the hospital for nine months, the high school girl saw a significant change in her look, which led to her developing an interest in cosmetics as a method of enhancing her sense of beauty. She has honed her expertise in the field of cosmetics throughout the course of her life, and she now imparts her knowledge on TikTok.
