When Debbie Petranck’s small Pug-nosed Terrier, Zeus, disappeared from his yard in Ocala, Florida, she was in a state of sheer terror. Her cherished canine companion was nowhere to be seen despite her searching the surrounding area and making random stops at the animal shelters in the city. The devastated owner of Zeus started advertising his disappearance in the neighborhood newspaper by publishing a “lost dog” notice every week.

About twenty-four months after Zeus went missing, Debbie got a frantic call from the employees at the Friends of the Dearborn Animal Shelter. The news that her cherished little dog had been found, and that it was in Detroit, over a thousand miles away, caused her to go into a state of stunned paralysis. As soon as Debbie found out her child was in the shelter, she got in her vehicle and rushed there as quickly as possible.

Reportedly, around this time period, Zeus was living with a guy who had rescued the dog from the streets of Florida after it had been living there as a “stray.” The owner later relocated to Michigan with Zeus, but the dog ended up in Detroit when he managed to escape his new home in Michigan! After some time, he was taken up by a nearby animal shelter, and a check of his microchip identified Debbie as the previous owner!

The moment when Debbie and Zeus meet each other again is one of the most heartwarming moments that we have seen in a long time. Because of this, it has been more vital in recent years to have a microchip implanted in a pet. This story’s happy ending offers a glimmer of hope to the many other dog owners who are still looking for their lost pets.
