The son of Natasha Richardson shared a heartbreaking personal anecdote related to his mother’s iconic role in the movie “The Parent Trap.”

It has been more than a decade since the untimely death of the cherished actress Natasha Richardson, who went away in 2009 at the age of 45 as a result of a brain damage sustained as a result of a skiing accident. In spite of the fact that the whole world was saddened by her passing, she was blessed with a devoted family that included her husband, Liam Neeson, and their two children.

Micheál Richardson, Natasha’s youngest son, recently shared how he honors the memory of his late mother, particularly at times when he is overcome with thoughts of longing for her presence in his life. The actor added that anytime he wanted to experience the presence of his mother, he would particularly be attracted to rewatching “The Parent Trap,” the 1998 comedy picture in which Natasha played with Lindsay Lohan and Dennis Quaid. The film was directed by John Hughes.

When Micheál, who was born in 1995, suddenly lost his mother, he was just 13 years old. During their family ski vacation in Quebec, Canada on March 16, 2009, he watched her slipping and landing on her head, which caused Natasha to suffer from epidural hematoma and ultimately required medical attention.

 

Reports indicate that Natasha was not wearing a helmet during the event that occurred while she was skiing, and that she did not make contact with any objects when she fell. The ski patrol urged that she visit a doctor despite the fact that she first gave the impression of being unscathed and even made light of the tragedy. According to a statement that was issued by the resort, Richardson departed the infirmary at approximately midday despite the fact that they had recommended that he stay there.

After that, the actress gave her signature to a disclaimer, and she and her ski instructor strolled back to their hotel together. A short time later, the hotel placed a call to the emergency services, and Natasha was taken to the hospital as soon as they arrived. After many hours had passed, the actress was taken to a hospital in New York, where the rest of her family awaited news on how her condition was doing; regrettably, she did not survive her injuries.

Micheál, who was then 25 years old when his mother passed away, recalled his recollection of that night to People in 2021. He also discussed the reason why he is attracted to rewatch his mother’s old movies.

“When it comes out of nowhere and it’s just a freak accident, it really kind of messes with your mind,” said Micheál. “This is true regardless of whether or not you believe in fate.” “It has the potential to throw you for a bit of a loop, and as a result, you find yourself clinging to the smallest of your recollections, whether it be her laugh, her energy in the room, or her cooking.”

“I do have her films to go back and watch her in, which I’m incredibly grateful for,” Micheál remarked, and he singled out “The Parent Trap” as his favorite since the part that his mother played in that movie mirrored how his kid viewed her in real life.

Micheál claimed to being a mama’s boy in an interview with Vanity Fair in the year 2020. He also discussed how similar his mother was to the character of Elizabeth James, the mother of twins portrayed by Lohan, in the part that she performed in the film.

Micheál described her as a “warm, wonderful mother figure” and referred to her as his “best friend.” “When we would come home or she would come home, she always had these incredible, big welcomes waiting for us.”

Andy Cohen, who was a friend of Natasha’s and hosts a talk show, was of the opinion that she portrayed the character of Elizabeth James well and added that she was precisely like the ideal mother who was “involved and engaged as well as wonderful and loving.”

Micheál made the heartfelt decision to honor his mother by taking her maiden name in 2019, making “Richardson” his own surname as he began his career in the acting industry. He added that this choice was made to honor his mother and his mother’s side of the family and that it was a method to show respect for his father’s family name.
