The perfect performance of “Unchained Melody” by a talented Beachgoer awakens the soul…

Mart Hoogkamer used to be nothing more than an ambitious musician with a dream until he achieved success as a professional vocalist and became a household name in his own country. His road to worldwide notoriety would soon take an unexpected turn when his soul-stirring performance of the classic song “Unchained Melody” adorned the sands of a beach in Spain and went viral. The folk singer was born on May 5, 1998 in Leiden, Netherlands.

Hoogkamer and three of his pals were enjoying a beach vacation when they decided to start playing some music and jamming together. In 1954, composer Alex North was commissioned to provide the soundtrack for the film “Unchained,” which starred Elroy Hirsch. North was up to the challenge. Following the completion of the music, North was given the task of writing a song that was inspired by the overall concept of the film. He addressed the writer Hy Zaret about working together, but the lyricist did not like for the term “unchained” in the song. As a result, they concentrated on depicting the ache that someone would feel if they were away from their beloved for a “long, lonely time.”

The movie that marked the first appearance of the song in a motion picture was about a guy who was given the option of either attempting to get out of jail or serving his time in order to be reunited with his family. The film’s vocals were delivered by Todd Duncan, who sang them while laying on a bed and being backed by another prisoner on guitar.

In the 1950s, a number of other musicians recorded their own renditions of “Unchained Melody,” but in 1965, The Righteous Brothers produced the version that is considered to be the most memorable. During the process of recording the song, Bobby Hatfield made a substantial alteration to it by singing the lyric “I need your love” in the last verse somewhat higher than he had originally planned to.

The song “Unchained Melody” saw a renaissance in popularity in the year 1990 when it was used in the movie “Ghost,” which starred Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. It was the single that went on to become the year’s best-selling single, with total sales surpassing 1.17 million copies.

The publication of Hoogkamer’s version propelled him into the limelight on a global scale. The Dutch artist had not yet attained the degree of renown he deserved prior to the release of “Unchained Melody,” despite the fact that he had remarkable singing skills and had several big singles domestically.
