The Blue Jackal Who Became King

Added By - Admin

A hungry jackal named Chandarava wandered into a village one night, scavenging for scraps, when a pack of dogs chased him through the streets. In his panic, he stumbled into a large vat of indigo dye used by washermen and fell completely inside, emerging moments later with his fur stained a strange, brilliant blue from head to tail. Terrified, he fled back to the forest, where the other animals saw his unusual blue color and, never having seen such a creature before, assumed he must be some powerful being sent by the gods to rule over them. Seizing the opportunity, Chandarava declared himself king of the jungle, appointing the lion as his minister, the tiger as his guard, and the wolf as his gatekeeper, while keeping his own jackal pack at a distance, ashamed of their ordinary appearance. For a time he lived in luxury, enjoying the respect and service of every animal in the forest. But one evening, as dusk fell, a pack of jackals began howling nearby, and old instincts stirred within Chandarava. Forgetting himself completely, he threw back his head and howled along with them in his natural jackal voice. The other animals immediately recognized the deception, and ashamed and furious, they chased the false king out of the forest forever.
