On the day of their wedding, Robin Roberts had a memorable encounter just before to meeting her bride, Amber Laign.

On Thursday, the host of Good Morning America released a new picture from her recent wedding to her longtime companion Laign. The shot was taken during the ceremony. In the photograph, Roberts could be seen smiling broadly and bringing her hands together in front of her face as Laign approached her. Both of the brides donned their wedding dresses, and for the 62-year-old, it was a moment of peace just before she and her spouse renewed their vows.

Roberts divulged to her fellow co-hosts on an edition of Good Morning America that aired in August the news that she and Laign had made the decision to have their final wedding dress fittings done independently. “The final fitting is going to be done separately because I want the two of us to see each other in the final dress for the first time on the wedding [day],” she revealed. “The reason for this is because I want us to have a special moment together.”

On September 8, Roberts and Laign exchanged their vows in the garden of their house before continuing the festivities with 250 of their friends and family members at a reception hosted at Farmington Gardens in Farmington, Connecticut. JoAnn Gregoli, the wedding coordinator for the couple, said in an interview with PEOPLE that the brides wanted their party to be as environmentally friendly as possible. As a consequence of this, they decided to use plantable save the date cards and invitations, and they made use of greenery rather than cut flowers wherever it was feasible to do so.

The pair chose to say their vows in front of their immediate family members, but their reception was attended by a slew of famous people. Among the guests were George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion, Lara Spencer, Michael Strahan, David Muir, Gio Benetiz, Dr. Jen Ashton, and Tory Johnson, who are all co-stars on Good Morning America with Robin Roberts. Other famous people in attendance were the singer Gayle King and the tennis star Billie Jean King.

Gregoli claims that she had to seek the advice of weatherman Champion, 62, when the couple’s outdoor wedding was in danger of being canceled due to the presence of rain clouds.

She stated, “The radar was showing rain, and Robin and Amber really wanted it outside, in front of the [tribute bench to Roberts’ mother],” but it seemed like rain could be coming. “Thank goodness, we conferred with Sam Champion, the weatherman, who was also a guest, and he helped lead us in making the choice as to what time to really begin the ceremony. To ensure that the ceremony could take place outdoors without being rained out, we had to move the start time of it many times during the day.

She continued by saying, “In the end, Sam was right, and we had that window of time, which was timed perfectly as the sun showed upon them as they walked down the aisle.” After then, it began to rain heavily for the next hour.
On September 10, Roberts posted two images on her Instagram account showing herself and Laign walking down the aisle of their wedding together while holding hands. In the description for the photo, she referred to the event as “magical.”

She described the wedding as “an intimate, magical wedding ceremony in our backyard followed by a joyous reception…ohhh the dancing!! ” in her written account of the event. “We are grateful to each and every one of you for making both the day and the night something to cherish. We are going on our honeymoon right now!
