What is Psalm 95 about?
It opens as a call to worship - "O come, let us sing unto the LORD... let us kneel before the LORD our maker" (vv.1,6) - then shifts to a warning not to harden one's heart as at the wilderness rebellion.
What does Psalm 95:7-8 warn?
"To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness" - a reference to Israel testing God at Meribah.
What consequence does Psalm 95 describe for that generation?
Verse 11 says God swore in his wrath that generation "should not enter into my rest," after being grieved with them for forty years (v.10).
That warning recalls the forty years God 'was grieved with this generation' in the wilderness, a bowing before God's name echoed centuries later in Philippians 2:10. It leads directly into the fresh call to sing found in Psalms 96.
