Psalm 1

What is the main contrast in Psalms 1?
The psalm contrasts the blessed man, who delights in God's law and is like a tree planted by rivers of water bearing fruit in season (v.1-3), with the ungodly, who are like chaff the wind blows away (v.4).
What does Psalms 1:1 mean by not walking in the counsel of the ungodly?
It opens by blessing the person who avoids the advice of the wicked, the path of sinners, and the company of scoffers (v.1) — read it at Psalms 1:1.
What happens to the ungodly according to Psalms 1?
The psalm says they will not stand in the judgment nor be counted among the righteous, since the LORD knows the way of the righteous while the way of the ungodly perishes (v.5-6), a fate contrasted similarly in Psalms 26:4-5.

By contrast, the ungodly are 'like the chaff which the wind driveth away,' unable to stand in judgment. The psalm's opening line is examined closely in Psalms 1:1, and its tree imagery recurs in Psalms 26:4-5.
