After breaking his neck in an accident, bull riding champion J.B. Mauney has decided to retire, saying, “This is not the way I wanted to go.”

J.B. Mauney, a champion in the sport of bull riding, broke his neck during a recent competition, and on Tuesday he announced his decision to retire from the sport.

On Instagram, Mauney, who is 36 years old, broke the news with the caption, “All I can say is it’s been quite a party!”

After being tossed off a bull during the PRCA ProRodeo event that was held in Lewiston, Idaho, he claimed that he had to have surgery to fix the injury.

Mauney disclosed that he had surgery on his neck, “which required a rod/plates/screws and the removal of a disc,” and he expressed gratitude to the medical professionals at St. Joseph Regional for their assistance in restoring his health.

“Surgery went great, and I would like to thank everyone at @stjosephregionalmedical for taking care of me,” he posted on Twitter after his discharge from the hospital.

Mauney has revealed that the injury has caused him to end his career as a rider, despite the fact that the operation was a success.

“Unfortunately, with the surgery it ended my bullriding career, just wanted to let everyone know that I’m okay and now on the road to recovery,” he said in the email. “Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m okay and now on the road to recovery.”

According to The Llanelli Herald, Mauney won two World titles in 2013 and 2015 and now shares the record for most televised victories in the Professional Bull Riders league (PBR) with Justin McBride. Mauney also owns the record for most broadcast wins in the PBR.

Following the rider’s announcement that he would be retiring, PBR announcer Rafael Vilella paid tribute to Mauney on social media.

Vilella posted a picture of herself and Mauney together on social media with the caption, “JB Mauney is retiring, but his legacy will never be forgotten.” A caption that was originally written in Japanese was later translated into English.

In response to Mauney’s declaration, the official account of the Professional Bull Riders League (PBR) tweeted, “The sport of bull riding will never be the same.” “Thank you for the innumerable memories, and the moments that will never be forgotten!”

Cody Nance, a fellow rider, sent the following message: “Been amazing riding all these years with ya champ. You, along with a lot of other people, have influenced me. It is a blessing for me. Have fun relaxing and spending time with your lovely family, brother. It’s been a joy having you here.”
