6 Reasons Why Faith Is Important

What comes to mind when you hear the term “faith”?
Whether you acknowledge it or not, faith is important component of Christianity.
For instance, you have faith that a chair will support you every time you sit down on one.
You are putting your faith in the chair to keep you upright.

Being certain of what you are hoping for and being certain of what you have not yet seen or experienced—that is faith.
“The substance of things hoped for, the proof of things not seen,” is how the Bible describes faith (Hebrews 11:1).

It is impossible to please God without faith

What makes faith important?
We can’t please God without it.

But without faith it is impossible to satisfy Him, for anyone comes to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him with their whole hearts, as it says in Hebrews 11:6.
Let’s face it, it requires faith to believe in a God we cannot see and that He is who He claims to be!

Jesus Takes Notice of Our Faith

Two distinct characters with two varying degrees of faith are depicted in the book of Matthew.

A woman, a Gentile, believed that Jesus was her daughter’s sole chance and that there was nothing else.
She wouldn’t accept “no” from this Jewish Rabbi, so Jesus was inspired by her faith and gave her what she asked for.

The guy lacking in faith was Peter, a follower of Jesus.
Peter had the faith to approach Jesus as He was approaching on the sea; however, as his eyes were drawn to the wind and the waves, he grew fearful and started to sink.
In order to maintain our faith in the face of adversity, we must also focus on Jesus rather than our circumstances.

God is moved to act by faith.

Why is faith significant to God?
Because God is moved by faith, not by need, uncertainty, or fear.
When Jesus observed his friends’ faith, He told the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven you,” according to Mark 2:5.
The crippled man stood up, took his mat, and left for his house.
Jesus intervened on their behalf and healed the friend of the lame man after observing their faith.

Christians frequently pray to God, asking Him to provide for their needs, cure their bodies or relationships, or provide them insight.
But as James 1:5-7 states, we won’t get what we’re asking for until we ask in faith and without reservation.

During trials, faith gives us strength.

We will encounter challenges because we live in a world that is sinful and fallen.
However, it is our faith that keeps us steadfast amid trying circumstances.
Our faith serves as a shield to keep us safe from our enemy’s plans and ploys, as stated in the verse, “above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one” (Ephesians 6:16).

When our faith is put to the test, we shouldn’t be surprised because James 2:3 states that “the testing of your faith creates patience.”
God is praised as we persevere in our faith in the face of adversity: “that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:7).

Faith Motivates Our Work

By what we do and how we live, we show others that we have confidence in God.
According to James 2:26, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

Imagine this:
In your row boat of life, Faith and Works each represent an oar.
Together, they help you advance.
Activities that accompany genuine faith serve to confirm it; conversely, actions taken without faith are meaningless.
Always take action out of faith!

James clarifies it as follows: “Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, ‘You have faith, and I have works.’ Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works” (James 2:17-18).

Others Can Be Encouraged by Our Faith

Unwavering faith is evident, and it can inspire others to have unwavering faith as well. It is easy to maintain your commitment to your faith in God when you see others doing the same. According to Colossians 1:3–4. “We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints.” Make the decision to maintain your faith and encourage others to do the same!

The Apostle Paul was serving as a mentor to Timothy, a young pastor. According to Paul, 2 Timothy 1:5 “when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.” Our family, friends, and other people can benefit from our strong, sincere faith when we share it with them, making a positive effect in their lives as well.

When life’s storms try to knock us off course, we must be ready to battle to keep our faith.
In fact, as long as we maintain our confidence in God, it will help us go through even the most difficult situations for His glory.
