3 Ways to Live a New Life in Christ

Are you ready for a whole new life in Christ? Are you prepared to stop living under circumstances and begin living above them? That’s what is available to you as a believer. Whether you are new to the Christian faith or new to living by faith, your covenant rights as a believer allow you to live a whole new life in Christ.

The life you left behind when you became a Spirit-led, Bible-believing, faith-filled Christian is gone. Romans 8:1-2 describes this change like this: “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.”

You are no longer bound by what you can touch, see, smell, hear and taste. You answer to God’s laws, the Law of the Spirit. When natural symptoms tell you you’re under the weather, you know you’re healed (Isaiah 53:5). When your bills tell you that you’re downing in debt, you know your God will provide all you need (Philippians 4:19). And when the enemy (or friends or family or circumstances) whisper that you will never have the life you dream of, you know that your God is a God with good plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11).

Remembering and trusting the promises God has made to His people (that includes you, by the way), honors Him. That’s what living by faith is all about. You aren’t living under your circumstances, you are trusting God and the truth He revealed in His WORD to rise above your circumstances. You are setting your eyes on The LORD and saying, “No matter what I see, smell, taste, hear or feel, I will trust my God to do what He has promised to do!”

Remember God’s Plan

In 1 Samuel 2:30, God tells you, “I will honor those who honor me.” To honor means “to make heavy with glory; to highly esteem, promote, exalt or lift up.” Some people would say that it’s wrong for any person to be promoted or exalted, but Scripture says something different. Take a look at 1 Peter 5:6: “So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.” God isn’t opposed to His children being honored or exalted. In fact, that’s been His plan all along.

Ever since Adam fell in the Garden of Eden, God has been working to lift mankind back up. He wants us sitting with Him. Just look at what He has planned for you:

He stoops to look down
on heaven and on earth.
He lifts the poor from the dust

and the needy from the garbage dump.
He sets them among princes,
even the princes of his own people!

(Psalm 113:6-8)

Next, think about what the passage means to you. Personalize it. You have been taken from:
poverty

dust
need
the garbage dump.

You have been taken from all that and set among royalty. God’s plan for you does not include any kind of poverty or lack—not spiritual, not physical, not financial, not social. You don’t have to scrape by in life. You can live a new life in Christ, overcoming in every area.

By the blood and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, every believer (including you!) has been given authority to reign with Jesus. That’s what Jesus accomplished when He died and rose again. He didn’t come for Himself. No, He came for God’s people. He came to purchase our Redemption.

Jesus obeyed God and became subject to death and the curse so that we would be free (2 Corinthians 5:21). God raised Jesus from the dead and “seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself” (Ephesians 1:20-23).

Your New Life
Now, all that may sound well and good, but you might wonder, What does Jesus’ position have to do with my life now? He’s the One who’s exalted, not me.

Yes, but remember, you and every other believer are “in Christ.” You were raised up and seated together in heavenly places in Him (Ephesians 2:6). Also, if you have received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, then you have access to the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. As a Spirit-filled, Bible-believing, faith-filled Christian, you have access to:

The same power that lifted Jesus out of hell
The same power that transformed His body and flooded it with the life and the glory of God
The same power that exalted Him to the highest place of honor heaven has to offer!

Moreover, that power doesn’t only affect your spirit. It doesn’t simply transform your spiritual life. Romans 8:11 says, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”

That verse is talking about more than the great resurrection and the glorified bodies that we will receive. It’s talking about the power that’s available to every believer now, while we’re walking on this earth. We have access to God’s resurrection power now.

Even the Apostle Paul spoke about this when he said he would keep pressing in to the knowledge of Jesus and His resurrection power until power lifted him “out from among the dead [even while in the body]” (Philippians 3:11, AMPC).

Paul determined to live like that and so can you. Therefore, don’t see yourself as defeated and powerless and subject to the circumstances of this world. Get into agreement with God’s plan of Redemption. Believe that God has taken you from poverty and lack and set you among royalty.

Do that by:

Discovering what The WORD has to say about your life
Speaking The WORD over yourself, your life and your family
Believing God’s WORD wholeheartedly

Speaking positively about yourself and your life
Praising God for who He is
Praying continually for wisdom and direction

Thanking God for every good thing He has done and is doing for you!

You don’t have to spend one more moment under any circumstances. You can believe and stand on God’s WORD and begin enjoying your new life in Christ. God designed it. Jesus provided it. Now, you can live it!
