100-Year-Old Grandfather Travels 4 Hours A Day To Do Charity Work

David Flucker is not your run-of-the-mill grandfather; he has the energy of a thirty-year-old because he travels 4 hours a day to work, even though he is 100 years old!

This grandfather of 7, is a widower and retiree, but still he travels to a charity shop every day to help with the donations of clothes, toys, and household items. His zeal to help others is what makes David a tireless soul.

David has had a tryst with cancer but is bent upon working a part-time job of helping others, he works three times a week, and takes a two-hour bus ride and a twenty-minute ride to reach his workplace. “It is two buses and a 20-minute walk to get to the shop, at least two hours,” he said. “I work three days a week, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, the busiest days.”

David is a people person as he runs through the donated items to make sure people get the best used items at the store. He has a charming personality that draws people instantly to him for a conversation.

His employer is full of praise for his work ethic and wanted to honor this solid employee with a post on social media. “David is a well-known face in the store, where he volunteers three days a week, keeping busy counting jigsaw pieces, mending toys, steaming clothes, chatting to customers and many other things besides! He also builds model railways and model ships.”

“Born in Newhaven; throughout his life, David has lived in Australia and South Africa, and flew with the RAF in North Africa in the Second World War, where he survived a plane crash. Even approaching his 100th birthday, David says that he has no intention to stop volunteering and that the quiet life isn’t for him.”

We admire the sheer guts of David Flucker who like others his age could have chosen to sit at home and rest, but this man has the good of others in his heart and is stepping out daily to make a difference in people’s lives.
